Reducing the Reading Achievement Gap by 4th Grade

Strategies:

First Teacher - A parent engagement program aimed at helping 4 year olds prepare for school.  Resources and training for parents will help improve the pre-literacy skills of at-risk children.

Every Classroom Counts - Research based program connecting classroom-based volunteer mentors with students who need help developing their reading skills.

Increasing Financial Stability for Families

Strategies:

EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) Outreach - A partnership to provide improved access to free tax preparation sites as well as education about the tax credit.

Familywize Prescription Discount Card - A prescription drug discount card program to provide discount cards to those in need.

Making Local Schools Safer and "Bully-Free"

Strategies:

Anti-Violence Campaign - A partnership to raise awareness about violence and increase the number of adults talking to children about why violence is wrong and what they can do to prevent violence.

School Based Programming - Expanding upon current anti-bully efforts and implementing supportive programs to reduce bullying and violence in our local schools.
